There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1.
As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I remained faithful.
2 Timothy 6-7
Brother Melvin Scott was born on September 1, 1944, to the late Aurestile Scott Sr. and Pinkie Mae Atkins. He departed this life on August 13, 2024. He was baptized at an early age into the Baptist faith and has been apart of St. Luke Baptist Church since birth. During his active years before his illness, following his father's footsteps he served as an Ordained Deacon.
He graduated from Southdown School and attended Grambling State University earning a degree in Education which led him to become an Educator in Terrebonne Parish. Melvin also worked for and retired from the Houma Police Department. Upon retiring from the police department Melvin ran for Sheriff of Terrebonne Parish. He served as past Worshipful Master of the Stone Square lodge #239 in Houma Louisiana and as President of the Grambling State University Alumni Association. He was actively involved in and loved attending the University's Bayou Classic games. Each year Melvin looked forward to gathering with his hunting club in Woodville, Mississippi. He would travel to different parts of Louisiana and Mississippi on hunting trips. He didn’t meet a stranger!
Many people called him “friend” because he was willing to help anyone and was always full of joy! Melvin was very active in his community and enjoyed his frequent visits to churches within the community after his Sunday morning worship at St Luke. He had a special liking for hunting, fishing, playing spades and gardening. He took pride in his orange, mandarin and lemon trees. Melvin loved cooking and became well known for his cracklings. He loved to attend football games and watching sports, especially his Saints!
Above all, he loved his family and friends dearly and spending time with them. Melvin left this world too soon but leaves a beautiful legacy behind.
Brother Melvin was married to the late Judy Ann Bolden on May 1, 1976. Their union lasted for forty four years. To this union they were blessed with one son Melvin Scott Jr.
