A public viewing will be conducted from 2:00 p.m. until funeral time at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Jones Funeral Home chapel, 230 S. Hollywood Road in Houma, LA. Interment will be in the LA National Cemetery in Zachary, LA.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Butler Simmons; children, Torrey Simmons, Dariontae Gasery and Tijuana S. Joseph; siblings, Rosemary Wilson, Ruth Porche, Margaret Washington, Cheryl Naylor, August, Jr., Charles, Randy, Bobby, Diane and Edna Simmons; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August, Sr. and Ruth Williams Simmons; and siblings, Stella Hayes, David, Lionel and Daisy Simmons.
