Long time Katy resident Albert (Al) Ullrich entered into the presence of his Lord on January 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Al was born in Houston, Texas on April 7, 1938, to August and Lucy Ullrich. He learned the value of hard work by caring for the animals on their farm and by working at the family’s gas station. After graduating from Lamar High School in 1956, he was drafted into the military where he served 6 years in the Army. He also attended the University of Houston and was a proud Cougar.
Al married the love of his life Katherine Adair on August 15, 1959. They began their life together in Houston and then eventually moved to Katy where he served on the FFA parade committee. The family were members of Katy Bible Church for several years where he enjoyed playing on the men’s softball team.
Al had a long, successful career as a manufacturer’s representative in sales where he traveled throughout Texas and other states. He loved to hunt and fish, garden, do woodworking, and play dominoes- especially 42. He was a sports enthusiast watching football and baseball games anytime they were on tv or listening to them on the radio. He faithfully listened to KHCB Christian radio and enjoyed Charles Stanley, Chuck Swindoll, Tony Evans, and Charlie Dyer, but his favorite program was Thru the Bible with J. Vernon McGee. He always collected funny articles and comics to show his family when they came to visit. He would say, “I’ve got something for you to see” and head to the drawer where he would pull it out. He cherished his family and delighted in time with them, especially his 12 grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as PawPaw.
Adored by his family, he is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Kay Ullrich, along with their children Kevin (Melissa) Ullrich, Scot (Robin) Ullrich, Tracy (John) Williams, Ken (Amy) Ullrich and grandchildren Kasey Ullrich, Kelley (Kaylie) Ullrich, Lauren Ullrich, Erin Ullrich, Catherine Ullrich, Austin Ullrich, Cody (Emily) Williams, Christopher Williams, Cami (Christoph) Meinardus, Garrett (Shelby) Ullrich, Cassidy Ullrich, Keely Ullrich, great-grandson Blayden Ullrich, and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents August and Lucy Ullrich and siblings August Ullrich Jr., Ollie Ullrich and Lucy (Ullrich) McKinney.
A Celebration of Life, officiated by Scot Ullrich, will be held on Thursday January 15, 2026, at 2 pm at Forest Park Cemetery 12800 Westheimer Rd Houston, Texas 77077 with burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to KHCB radio station or Camp Peniel in Marble Falls, TX.
