

She attended Lincoln High School in the 1950s during the height of the Civil
Rights Movement. Later, she moved to Marrero, Louisiana, where she married
Donald Butler. After spending some time in Louisiana, she relocated to Houston,
Texas, with the assistance of her brother, Hollis Jiles. In Houston, she served as
a registered nurse, continuing her lifelong passion for helping others. Alberta
was a compassionate mother who often cared for those who came into her life.
She was the heart of the family, known for her love of cooking and organizing
family gatherings. She deeply loved God and was committed to sharing the
gospel with others. Alberta taught her family the true meaning of unconditional
love and was a living example of kindness and faith. Over the last five years, she
bravely faced health complications, fighting the good fight until the end.
Alberta Butler was preceded in death by her father, Zeno R. Jackson; her
mother, Maydee Jiles; her sister, Gracie Jiles Griffen; her brothers, Hollis and
Dewitt Jiles; and her children, Vanessa, Orlando Sr., and Carl Butler.
She is survived by her sister, Ceola Jiles Taylor; her brother,
Roddy George Jiles; her children, Corey Jackson, and Stacy
Butler; her grandchildren, Ashford Butler, Anansi Flaherty,
Orlando Butler Jr., Chris Butler, Whitney Butler, Doris Perkins,
Ashanti Jackson, and Zyon Jackson; as well as a host
of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins,
extended family and friends.
