You always lit up the room. You always found a way to get people up dancing and singing; you made my mom sing karaoke and got me dancing at my cousin’s weddings, even though I was shy. Every year, even though my family was far away, you would send my sister and I cards in the mail wishing us a Merry Christmas, even when we didn’t always send one back.  I’ll always remember the friendly rivalry my dad had with you when it came to sports, and how you loved to support your California teams (mostly LA) even when they weren’t doing well. I’ll remember your good spirit when my dad called you in the middle of the night; you always answered his late-night calls.  When the year started, you never neglected to reach out: on my birthday you wished me warm wishes, at the start of the pandemic you called to check in with me, when New York surged in April you calmed me down with stories of my dad when he was young, and when I came back to Texas in the summer you helped me move into my new apartment. Despite the time that passed between seeing you, you welcomed me back with open arms and made it feel like we saw each other just yesterday. When my sister needed furniture for her new home, you volunteered to bring furniture all the way from Brownsville to Arizona, in the middle of the summer with no AC and still greeted us with a huge smile and hug. That’s when I took my instant camera and took the picture here with the last film left in the camera. You’ve done so many crazy and wonderful things for our family, and all with a smile on your face. You always put family first and make me proud to be a Leiva. I love you tío. Thank you for all the beautiful memories that I’ll cherish forever and ever.

Dear Beloved brother 

There is so much I wish I could tell you now and memories we share together that you know impacted and form me into the man, son Brother Father, husband and uncle that I am today. I know you learn and taught us what it means to be father, grandfather and loving son because of all you live early on your life as a child and dealing with all adversities that life handed you early on in your life. You were always there for me and gave me your time and all your advice till the very end... I know you will be watching over me and our families because that is who you are a loving kind brother.

My earliest memories and recollections of you of course are when you departed and came to this country and our family was separated. I remember clearly feeling emptiness and I used to look forward to hearing from you in letters and seeing polaroid pictures lol.. I remember seeing you alongside Joel wearing scarfs and my father and I wanted to go and be with you all so much because I thought the life of living in the united states was so glamorous with all the snow and how fun it looked.  prior to you leaving I remeber seeing the Star Wars poster above your bunkbed and Saturday night dancing , Michael Jackson Lobo jack matinees in the Infinito disco dancing in the 70's Lol and even till the very end you are an amazing dancer ... Although I never got to experience those places with you because I was a child  .. I wanted to be like my big brother and those memories remain in me in things i wanted to experience and quite frankly I could never be as cool and fun as you. Always happy and full of life. I Definitively never could dream to be the great dancer you are brother. I know you will always be happy and dancing because even in the toughest times you maintain a positive attitude and happiness with you that I admire to this day despite adversities.

Soy Ex-alumba del Colegio Bautista de Nicaragua, lo recuerdo en el Colegio, en otra seccion, siempre admire el Parecido que tenia con su Hermano, siempre sonriente y amigable, comparti, en Reuniones del Colegio. Su Partida es dura, tan Joven. Pero estamos seguros de que ya esta En la Mansion que Dios le tenia preparada, y su Alma ya descansar en su Presencia, y seguira Vivo, como Promesa del Senor. Dear Aldo,

Thank you so much for the uncountable blessings you have given me and Michelle in the short time that I got to know you. Driving your pickup truck all the way from Dallas to Austin in the rain while keeping a smile on your face  even though all the furniture got wet would always be a memory I’ll cherish. Now when I think about you, I see a man who embodies what it means to put familia first. You have shown me what it means to truly care for those around you and show even the people you have just met the upmost respect and compassion. Thank you Aldo for being such a great example to your niece Michelle and you’ll always be held dear in our hearts for everything you have done for the Leiva family!

Reciba la familia Leiva mis más sinceras condolencias.  Están en mis oraciones y pensamientos. Aldo y yo fuimos compañeros de escuela en el Colegio  Bautista de Managua y tuvimos una gran amistad.  La vida nos separó un tiempo y nos volvimos a recontar en Los Ángeles. Todavía guardo en mi mente ese día de nuestro encuentro. 
Dios de misericordia y amor, pongo en tus manos amorosas a mi recordado amigo y compañero Aldo David Leiva, una víctima más del COVID-19, a quien has llamado de esta vida a tu presencia. En esta vida le demostraste tu gran amor, y ahora que ya está libre de toda preocupación concédele pasar con seguridad las puertas de la muerte
y gozar de la luz y la paz eterna. Habiendo terminado su vida terrena recíbelo en el paraíso, en donde ya no habrá tristeza ni dolor, sino únicamente felicidad y alegría con Jesús, tu Hijo, y con el Espíritu Santo, para siempre. Amén.😥🙏

Aldo y yo fuimos al Colegio Bautista en Managua.  Después nos recolectamos en Los Angeles. Siempre el mismo amable,  simpático, agradable. Nos divertimos mucho. Siempre tendrá un lugar muy especial en mi corazón.  Se que  el esta cantando y bailando en el cielo.  

Mi más sentido pésame a la Familia Leiva. Aparte de ser compañeros de clases en el Colegio Bautista nos unía una amistad familiar que se remonta a mi abuelo (era padrino de Joel). Nuestros padres también estaban unidos por una amistad de muchos años. Descansa en Paz Aldo, amigo, hermano, tocayo. Casi nos vemos en Octubre del año pasado, pero aunque no lo hicimos por esta pandemia del virus que te llevó, si pudimos conversar alegremente de muchas cosas. Me quedo con ese grato recuerdo de nuestras últimas llamadas por teléfono...Dios te tenga que en su gloria!

As I remembered our younger years..when you were being led to the killing fields by the military;you shown no fear..by a miracle you were saved. You were fearless,a true warrior,and yes you were a fighter..I admired you for that..you led me in my forming years when we came to USA at a very young age..bcz of you..I matured. I’m what I am now bcz of taught me..to work hard,dedication,discipline,to not give up,to keep on fighting,n to not fear no one..oh my dear brother..with tears,you are leaving me in so much heartache,an empty hole in my heart..keep protecting n watching me over from where you are now..as u kept tabs on me when u made time to see me played American football in Hollywood High..I drove trucks just to keep tabs on you in Rialto,CA..as you were all alone..now that you are up in the heavens above..wait “us”..we will be reunited once again...never I will forget you..you still live on deep in my heart n soul...I LOVE YOU MY BROTHER !!!

You always made me feel like you were proud of me, thank you for that Tio I’ll never forget it . It was awesome to have spent time with you. The last moments you were there with me celebrating ,we had some Flor de caña you can’t say i owe you a drink. As long as you are remembered you are not gone. Forever in our hearts.
