

New Caney---Alfred Stogdill Sr., one of the original pioneers of the Porter Fire Department,
passed away at age 89 on Tuesday, Nov. 1 , 2016.
A resident of Porter and New Caney, Texas for over 53 years, Mr. Stogdill was born in Temple, Texas to Daisy Mae and Roland Stogdill.
He had an outstanding work ethic and his careers were plentiful, beginning with Carghill Printing in Houston, New Caney ISD, and the Houston Chronicle. The career he had the greatest passion for was working 45 years for Midland Oil and Ingram Oil as a Merchant Marine tow boat Captain and Pilot on the Mississippi and Ohio River. Many knew him by his nickname, “Captain”.
He served the community in the Porter Volunteer Fire department in his younger years and then later enjoyed several years as an Elks volunteer helping those in need. When in town, he would drop by The Eastex Dragway on old HWY 59 in Porter to catch a drag race. He and his wife also delivered some Meals on Wheels for the local Community Center. One of his hobbies was coin collecting and attending auctions. And before settling down in raising a family he loved to salt water fish, including Deep Sea fishing out of Galveston and Freeport.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Stogdill, his children, Bambi Krause and her husband, Mark , Pete Stogdill and his wife, Denise, and his step-daughter, Donna Goss. He is also survived by grandchildren, Tobi Coleman, Tara Johnson, Tonya Johnson, Liza Gonzalez, Richard Gonzalez, and step-grandchildren, Austin Goss, Patrick Goss, Mark Goss II, and many great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Georgette Stogdill and Ruth Stogdill, a brother at birth and his stepson, Mark Goss.
He will be missed dearly but we know we will see him in eternity.
Mr. Stogdill’s funeral services was Monday, Nov. 7th, at Brookside Funeral Home.
