It has been more than a moth since you passed on.  I still find it hard to believe you are no more. I still hear your golden voice and you wise words. Your beautiful laughter still echos in my head. Your presence is still felt and will live on in me and my memories for eternity. You were a beautiful sister, a rare gem, a solid human being.  You are irreplaceable.  There shall be no one like you, not even close, to fill the gap that you left behind.  I miss you so much and will miss you forever. I will also miss the many opportunities that I could have spent with you sharing life and learning wisdom from you. 
I wish you were still with us so I can still send you my complaint letters. My beautiful sister, your legacy will live on for eternity.  Rest in Eternal Peace 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I have only known Almaz for a few short years at the exercise classes we attended to Trace Gee's Community Center. She has touched so many lives with her sweet disposition and ever-present smile and encouraging words. She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

I have known Almaz for about five years in exercise class and loved her.  I just wanted to share with the family how she touched many other people's lives.   She was always a bright star in everyone's day, so beautiful and unassuming.  She will be sorely  missed. 

Aunti,  even tho we lost you, understanding that you’re in  happy and peaceful place with the father our lord makes me cheer from the bottom of my heart. You have impacted so many people’s life including mine and I will never forget that. From the first time we met, you were just like my mother to me. A person who regularly calls, texts and follow up on me to see my progress in my life. You showed me so much care and you left so much love in my heart. I know this is not good bye because I will see you again in heaven. 
I also want to add May God comfort everyone in the family especially Mr. Felix and Uel. 


Thank you for being there for my baby shower, l felt as my mother was with me on that day and your advice and encouragement through the years was unbelievable. I always kept you on my list of people whom l will reach out to in time of dealing with things. May you rest in the arm of the loving GOD as you wait for your king to Appear. Rest In Peace!

Dearest Aunt Almaz,

It doesn't feel real that you are gone but I am so truly grateful to have had you in my life.  You were an example of the quiet  strength, wisdom,  and grace I can only hope to achieve.  

I will miss our talks-about life and the family.  Everything always made sense when I talked to you.  Thank you for guiding me through many of life's journeys, including its steepest challenges, and pushing me in the pursuit of personal excellence. Most recently, thank you for being there to help me nurse my dad back to health which had been challenging to do by myself.  Thank you for being such a rock in my life.  

I will always cherish the person you are and thank God for the time we spent together.

I am very saddened to hear about the passing of Ms. Almaz. To know her is to love and respect her. A powerful, poised, beautiful and kind woman who left her mark on everyone near her. I will forever be grateful to Ms. Almaz for being my mentor through high school and college and journey into law school. She went above and beyond to help me achieve my goals and dared me to shoot for my highest potential. She believed in women, she believed in education, she believed in helping in every situation you have the power to do so. I am so lucky to have known you Ms. Almaz, I will never forget you. Dear Ms Bekele, thank you for the years you shared with us as professor, mentor, friend. I have not forgotten the sweet, savory taste of your cooking, or your kind invite to live with you after college graduation. Your persistence in locating good internships for us helped us to think big for ourselves and dream of greater possibilities. You certainly provided the solid grounding we needed to move forward. You succeeded Almaz!!! (you insisted we call you by first name).   I believed when you told me you were feeling better. Now you’re gone. I will miss you. Rest my sister. May God grant Grace, Peace and Comfort to your family and friends as we all mourn.🌹❤️🙏

I have known Almaz since high school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and we have been good friends since then.  She came to the US about two years before me and was already settled in when I joined her in 1974. My first stop was in NY but after four months there, I didn't like it and I was encouraged by Almaz to move to Houston. I did move.  After picking me up from the airport, she took me in to stay with her until I got my own place. She found me my first job, helped me find my first place and guided me with my application for graduate school. Almaz was always there for me when I needed help, even when I got homesick. I stayed in Houston for 2 1/2 years and moved to DC but those few years in Houston gave me the best of Almaz.  I found out Almaz is a wonderful friend and a great sister. Even after I moved to the DC area, we always kept in touch. I never forget when she came for my daughter's wedding in 2011, how she danced all night and had a wonderful time. She looked more excited than I was.  

My last exchange of words with Almaz was last Thanksgiving Day when she texted me saying, "My dear sister, I am doing super good" and wished me Happy Thanksgiving. I believed her and was hoping to see her someday soon.

Phil and Uel, Almaz was a wonderful person and had done a lot of great things in her lifetime and please take comfort thinking of that. My deepest condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.

I will always remember my good friend and sister.

I have known you for over forty years--starting from our high school days!

Thank you for your kindness towards me.

Ms. Bekele, there are and  will be so many things to miss you for.  As a country boy from Alabama, it was you, during my college days, I could always talk to and you took time to listen. Your tough love taught me patience and perseverance…you gave me courage, when I lost hope…guided me, when my vision became blurred…the voice of reasoning, when I got homesick and wanted to return home. I can hear her voice now, saying, “Mr. Pope, you can do this”. Ms. Bekele, you were a relentless  advocate for your students, pushing us to reach our fullest potential and calling forth our power to endure. 

My professional career, I owe it all to you. You taught me one thing that has lasted all these years, attention to details. My career in the hospitality industry lasted nearly 40 years. All of those who worked under me and those that I mentored, gave me the title of , “Mr. Attention to Details”, Ms. Bekele, you instilled  that in me. 

Finally, you sacrificed so much for us…gave us so much of you. Watched over us as a big sister and always made a place in your heart for us. You are in a better place now…no more pain, no more suffering…continue to watch over us my Angel. Only temporary, until we meet again, my dear Almaz Bekele.  

 My dearest, dearest, long time friend, Almazie. I am deeply, deeply saddened by your departure. I did not expect it. I will miss you but I will always cherish your friendship, kindness & sense of humor and your beautiful smile. I know you have faith and you are at peace smiling down.
