Bette Miller Smyth, 66, of Houston, Texas died on May 10, 2026. Born on August 2, 1959 in Denver, Colorado, Bette was known for her bright and bubbly personality and a smile that would light up a room. She loved her children, her dogs, true crime and running. She was an avid runner who ran a full marathon, a few half-marathons, and over a dozen 5 and 10ks.
She graduated the University of Colorado Boulder in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. While she was very proud of her career as an executive assistant with Memorial Hermann for fifteen years, she was truly passionate about her work with the YMCA. From part-time at the local Lake Houston Family branch in Kingwood to full-time at the old downtown branch on Louisiana Street, to recently serving on the board at the Brenda and John Duncan branch after retirement.
Bette is survived by her children, son Brian Smyth; daughter Lauren Power, husband, Casey Power, and daughter Emily Cagle, husband Tommy Cagle; her grandchildren, Clara and Max Power; her brother, Doug Miller; and her sisters, Shirley Miller and Sue Bailey.
A celebration of life will occur in Houston, Texas on a TBA time and location. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA branch. We will miss her deeply. Thanks to all her friends and family that have expressed condolences.
