Bruce was born on July 9, 1952 at Wyandotte General Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan. He was the son of William and Stephanie Horvath. He grew up with three siblings, David, Brian and Mary Lynn.
Bruce earned his Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude from the University of Detroit in 1974. He went on to join the seminary and earn his Masters of Divinity at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Wisconsin.
Upon graduation, he served as a Catholic priest traveling across the nation to serve in different congregations. It was not until he settled in Houston at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he met the love of his life, Mary Helen. Those who knew them in their early years will say they "hated each other's guts." So it came to many as a surprise when Bruce announced he was leaving the priesthood to start a family. He was later granted permission by the Pope to marry by the Church.
He was employed for Harris County Probation Department then worked for Mental Health and IDD (MHMRA) and served as a Case Manager for 15 years. It became the hallmark of his performance as he served families of children with special needs. In retirement, he found spent time with his grandchildren, watching Astros games, playing his guitar, fishing, watching movies, traveling and cooking on his grill.
Bruce Joseph Horvath passed away on June 4, 2023 at Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen. He is survived by his children Veronica, Michael, and Steven; his grandchildren, Kiara, Analisa, Aurelio and Avelina; his brother Brian and sister Mary Lynn.
