

June 20th, 2025 Charles Anthony Asaud passed away peacefully with his devoted sons at his side. Charles was born in Donora, PA to Abe and Sallie Assad August 18th, 1935. He attended Wilmington College as well as Penn State University. His career as a metallurgist took him to Cincinnati, OH where he worked on many projects such as the nuclear reactor and the Lunar Rover. Relocating to Houston in 1969, he worked for Cameron Iron, then Tenneco retiring after a 30 year career.
His personal life was full as a devoted husband ,father ,grandfather and great grandfather. He was active for many years in the Scouting community. He served as Scoutmaster, Youth Leadership Development Council, Woodbadge, and Sam Houston Council representative on the Eagle Review Board. His influence and involvement in Scouting is reflected in his sons and grandson attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, which was a source of pride for Charles.
Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Eleanor.They enjoyed many years of service to others and travel. Charles and Eleanor traveled to Egypt,Jordan,Germany,France,England and Ireland. Their favorite form of travel was cruising, going on over 40 cruises, enjoying the Caribbean,Alaska, the Panama Canal and cross Atlantic cruises to Europe. Upon their return home,Charles would be planning their next adventure.
Charles was a longtime member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church serving over the years on the church Vestry, assisting with youth camps, Scouts and the 50+ Trekkers. In 2000 he and Eleanor became volunteers at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Charles prior to his passing served 25 years at the museum, continuing his service after Eleanor’s death. He devoted over 7400 hours at the museum, more than 3000 in the Cockrill Butterfly Center. He was a MasterDocent ,assisted in the Moran Ecoteen program,Archeology day and was a past president of the Museum Guild board. He devoted over 740 hours to the HISD 4th grade program and 500+ to the elementary school program. He truly enjoyed his time at the museum as a volunteer, and made many treasured friendships over the years.
Charles is survived by his daughter Anne Smith,sons David(Lisa) and Mark. The grandchildren and great grandkids referred to Charles as Gidoo. Grandchildren Dr.Rebekah Campbell (Tom Ware),Sarah Campbell (Stephen Wehring),Michael Asaud,Jessica Baumgartner (Ben),Allison Allison(Jason)Josh Campbell (Megan)Zach Asaud (Summer) and Alex Asaud. Great grandchildren; Charlotte,Danny,Lydia and Blythe Baumgartner, Freya Kayl,Ava and Andrew Asaud.
Charles also leaves two devoted brothers, Sam Assad and Dr. Daniel Assad(Rose). He is survived by nieces and nephews,cousins and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers,the family requests donations to Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
