December 27, 1952 – July 4, 2025
Charles L. Garrett Jr., lovingly known as Charlie to friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on December 27, 1952, to Lindy and Marie Garrett (both of whom preceded him in death), Charlie brought laughter, warmth, and a unique spirit into the world from the very beginning. He was a beloved brother to his two sisters, Marsha de Armas and Linda Garrett, and a cherished brother-in-law to Linda’s wife, Donna Muery. He was also a devoted uncle to his one and only niece, Lindsey de Armas, and a proud great-uncle to her three children: Gavin de Armas, Tyler Moquin, and Ryleigh Moquin. Charlie was known in his youth for his long red hair and easygoing nature. Friends often recall how his bright smile, infectious laugh, and sense of humor lit up any room he walked into. He was a true Houston sports fan, with a lifelong love for the Oilers and the Astros. He attended many games over the years, always cheering on his teams with enthusiasm. Charlie’s passion for music ran deep. He spent much of the 1970s and 80s attending concerts, and his favorite band, Pink Floyd, remained close to his heart throughout his life. He was also a huge fan of classic rock and oldies, filling his days with the music that brought him joy. In quieter moments, he could often be found watching Star Trek late into the night, drawn to its sense of wonder and adventure. Though Charlie battled rheumatoid arthritis from the age of four, he never let the pain steal his spirit. His resilience was a quiet kind of strength, wrapped in laughter, stories, and gentle encouragement for those he loved. One of the most special bonds in his life was with his great-nephew Gavin, with whom he shared a deep and loving connection. The two were inseparable, and Gavin brought endless joy and comfort to Charlie’s days. Charlie will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He kept a watchful eye on his loved ones, always asking where they were going and telling them to be safe. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
