

Charles Wayne Johnson, 88, of Houston, TX peacefully left this spiritual plane on November 15, 2018 surrounded by family. Born November 27, 1929 in Corpus Christi, TX the son of Jesse and Louie Johnson, Wayne was a lifelong Texan who developed a relentless work ethic. He worked nearly full-time on his father’s ranch while enrolled in middle school and high school. He attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas
Wayne joined the Air Force as a mechanical instructor during the Korean War. In 1953, Wayne met his future wife, June Steelhammer, while stationed at Gary Air Base in San Marcos, TX. Wayne and June married in 1955 and remained united in marriage for over six decades until her passing in 2015. Wayne subsequently entered the oil industry and climbed his way through the corporate ranks at BJ Hughes, eventually becoming one of the top executives, as well as President of the company. He loved his work, which led him to travel to oil production sites throughout the nation and world. His family, co-workers, and friends, known for his sharp wit, honesty, and unwavering loyalty, cherished Wayne. After retirement, Wayne selflessly devoted himself to The Center Foundation. He represented the best values of the greatest generation that the United States has ever produced.
Wayne is survived by his son, Charles Wayne Johnson, Jr. daughters, Judy Johnson Frederick (Scott) and Kimberly Allene Johnson, two grandchildren, Hunter (Ashley) and Taylor Frederick and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. A private celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may make a memorial donation to the The Center Foundation (https://thecenterhouston.org/donation/) where Wayne was a board member for more than 20 years.
