

Chloe Louissa Redman was born September, 3rd 1942 in Amityville, NY to Cecil Bernard Redman and Gladys Lucille (Taylor) Redman. Throughout her youth, Chloe excelled in academics. In 1956, while attending St. Martin’s Parochial School in Amityville, she won first prize for her winning essay on My Favorite Hero-1776, from the Amityville Post of the American Legion and Auxiliary. She later received a full scholarship to The Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY and worked through school to afford transportation from Long Island to Brooklyn on her own. She was the News Editor for her school newspaper the “Laurel” and won awards on her victorious Latin Team in translation contests. She graduated in June of 1960 and in that same summer, married her first husband James W. Barrow (deceased) and shared 3 children with him.
Chloe was an avid writer of poetry. She published several poems in 1968 while in junior college. On July 26th, 1970 Chloe married Joseph C. Johnson and moved to Selden, NY where she had 3 more children.
In 1977 Chloe earned her real-estate license and opened her business Crestwood Enterprises. She graduated from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY in 1984 with a BBA in Accounting and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant. She continued to hold active roles on the Long Island Board of Realtors, Afro-American Democratic Club and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry 1987-1993. In 1997, she moved with her family to East Stroudsburg, PA where she continued her career in accounting and joined The Order of The Eastern Star Diamonds of Stroudsburg. Late in 2006, she moved to Houston, TX where she and her husband of 45 years retired.
On Friday, May 6, 2016 at 1:52pm Chloe closed her eyes for the last time. She will be deeply missed and remembered as a true Christian to her friends and family. She has now joined her first son Kevin W. Barrow in heaven. She is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Johnson Sr.; her children Valerie A. Barrow, Joycelyn M. Barrow, Joanne C. Leasure, Joseph C. Johnson Jr., Jason C Johnson; son in law, George M. Leasure; and grandchilden, Jennifer M. Barrow, Christopher J. Johnson, Joshua A. Perry and Devin Nemley.
There will be a private viewing of Chloe at Brookside Funeral Home, Houston, TX with immediate family on May 10th and a Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 11th at 11am in the Chapel at Christ the Good Shepherd, 18511 Klein Church Road, Spring, Texas 77379-4998.
The family intends on having a Funeral Mass in Long Island New York with her ashes and then laying her to rest near her family.
