Cleveland Leon Mason Jr., was born in Tyler, Texas on July 13,1950 to the late Rev. Cleveland Leon Mason Sr., and Evelyn Delois Burgess Mason. He was a member of Miles Chapel CME Church and later joined and was baptized at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church.
Cleveland was educated in the public schools of Tyler, Texas and graduated with honors from Emmett J. Scott High School in 1968. After graduation he enrolled in Tyler Junior College where he received his Associates Degree in Electronics.
After graduation Cleveland applied and was accepted to the Federal Aviation Administration Academy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Cleveland enjoyed a very successful career as an Electronic Technician and later became a Lead Navigation Aid Specialist in the Houston Technical Support Unit Management for FAA. He retired after 43years and 2 months of service, on January 3, 2014.
Cleveland, also known as C.L. by many of his friends, enjoyed cooking all types of cajun dishes, and building and working on computers. He also loved game shows, visiting casinos, and most importantly, he loved his grandchildren!
Family members preceding him in death were: both parents, Cleveland Leon Mason Sr., and Evelyn Burgess Mason, and daughter, Melanie La’Trice Mason.
Cleveland departed this life on Friday, July 9, 2021, in Houston, Texas. He leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife of 26 years, Deborah Loville Mason, one son: Tramaine Lanier Mason of Houston, Texas; two daughters: Julieanne Lynece Mason of Asburn, Va. and Mylinda Cyrae Mason of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Oland Dean Mason of Tyler, Texas, and Bruce Elliot Mason of Richmond, Va; two sisters: Orenthia Delois Mason of Tyler, Texas, and Sherry Lynn Mason-Nixon of Richmond, Va.; three granddaughters (the loves of his life), Kaeori Azalee Pot of Phoenix, Az., A’Layah Renee Mason, and Ava Jiselle Franklin, both of Houston, Texas; one aunt, Helen Burgess Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
