Cora Chow

Cora was born in Cebu City, Philippines on June 28, 1941 to Vicente de la Cruz and Maria Salud Anduyan. She is survived by her husband, James Chow; children, Allison and spouse, Ricky Page, Hillary and spouse William Gilmore, Douglas and spouse Erin Chow, and Jacob Chow; grandchildren, Tyler Page, Addison Page, Cora Ann Gilmore, Julia Gilmore, Harper Chow, Ethan Chow, and Emerson Chow, Amy Hughes and spouse Dr. Jonathan Hughes and son Hayden Hughes, and Reid Page; by her brother, Romy de la Cruz and brother Wary Rosales and extended families.

Cora was a Doctor of Optometry in the Philippines where she practiced Optometry for three years before moving to the United States in December 1969. Through mutual friends, Cora met James Chow at a bowling alley in Houston, TX. After a whirlwind romance, they married on September 25, 1971. Over the years, James and Cora enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, country western dancing, gathering with the Chow family and being active in the Chinese American community.

Cora will always be remembered for her caring nature. Along with raising and loving her four children, she took on caring for her mother, her in-laws, and other children in her home. Once her kids were grown, she worked in the preschool and mothers-day-out program at Westbury United Methodist Church until she retired in 2006.

After her retirement, Cora enjoyed spending time with her seven grandchildren, going out to lunch with her friends as well as watching movies, cooking shows, fishing shows, and the Houston Astros. She enjoyed going out and trying new cuisines, but especially loved to spend her birthdays and Mother’s days dining at Red Lobster with the whole family. She spent her final evening enjoying a meal with James in addition to all of her children and grandchildren.
