Curtis Leroy Browning Jr., a revered veteran, devoted husband, and beloved father, passed away at the age of 78 on Thursday, March 14th, 2024. Born to Curtis and Dorothy Browning on November 22, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, Curtis’s early life laid the foundation for a journey full of dedication, love, and adventure.
In 1964, Curtis embarked on a distinguished career with the United States Navy, where he served as an Aviation Mechanic until his retirement in 1988.
Curtis’s heart found its counterpart in Sheri Lea Hoggard, whom he married on January 17, 1966, in Andalusia, Alabama. Together, they traversed the globe, embracing the beauty and diversity of the world, which enriched their lives and the lives of their eight wonderful children. Curtis’s post-military life saw him transition into a successful entrepreneur, with a myriad of interests that kept him engaged and active. Whether he was fishing, cooking for his family, or simply running errands, Curtis found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He and Sheri eventually settled in Houston, TX, in 2010, where evenings were often spent fishing, many games of 42, and enjoying leisurely rides around the neighborhood in their golf cart.
Curtis was cherished by friends and family alike for his unconditional love, readiness to help those in need, and his exceptional ability to see the good in everyone. His role as a loving husband and proud father was unparalleled, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his wife, Sheri Lea Hoggard Browning; his sister, Aleta Caldwell; his brother, Robert Browning, and step siblings Doug Kensur (Cindy), Cindy Silva (Dick) Pam Perry; his children, Curtis Browning III, Shannon Boudreaux (Curtis), Jennifer Hosea (Carl), Jeffrey Browning (Katie), Adam Browning, David Browning, Tyler Browning, and Sarah Gabriel (Quentin); along with 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Curtis Leroy Browning will be held on Monday, March 18th, 2024 at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 16203 Longenbaugh Drive, Houston, TX 77095.
Curtis’s life was a beacon of kindness, love, and dedication, and his memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those he touched.
