

Daniel Patrick "Dan" Whitty III, of Houston, died peacefully at his home on Christmas Eve. He lived a full and successful life and was surrounded by his family including the love of his life, Iris Webb Whitty, at the time of his passing.
Dan was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on the 26th of May 1931, and spent his childhood in Dutchtown, Louisiana, graduating from Louisiana State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Commerce. He moved with his wife and oldest daughter to Houston soon after where he joined Arthur Anderson & Co., an international accounting and consulting firm. In 1962, at the age of 31, Dan made worldwide partner and went on to become lead partner for Tenneco Inc., Columbia Gulf Transmission Co., Columbia Gas Development Corp., Coleve, Transco Energy Co., United Energy Resources, Inc., Continental Airlines, Texas Air Corp., and Enron Corporation. He remained at Arthur Anderson for 35 years until his retirement in 1988.
He served as a Director of EOTT Energy Corp., Northern Border Partners, L.P., Methodist Retirement Services, Inc., and Zapata Corporation. He also served as a member of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Board of the Trustees of Houston Grand Opera, the Finance Committee for Holy Cross Chapel, and the LSU Foundation. He is a founding member of St. Cecilia Church in Houston, member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Galveston, member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and past President of the Holy Name Retreat Center.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Iris; and four children and their spouses, Shelley Whitty Haden and Charlie, Denise Whitty Dubow and Craig, Patrick Whitty and Leigh Ann, and Charlotte Whitty Furrow and Roy. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Dan was preceded in death by his grandson Hamilton Whitty Haden. Dan was the patriarch of his family and he will be greatly missed.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dan's caregivers: Beverly Simon, Hope Anderson, Karen Brown and Litchie Jones. You filled his last year with love, kindness, support and patience, thank you.
A Mass of Christian Burial, and service of thanksgiving and celebration of Dan's life, is to be conducted at half-past ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 29th of December, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive in Houston, where The Most Reverend Vincent M. Rizzotto, D.D., J.C.L., Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston-Houston, is to serve as the celebrant with assistance from Deacon Don Bradley.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Community Center.
The family is to then gather for a private interment and Rite of Committal at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
