It is with the most profound sadness we announce the passing of our cherished Darrell Wayne Sims Jr., 37, of Houston, Texas. Our sweet boy passed away with his parents at his side, holding his hand on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. Darrell was born to Deborah Ann and Darrell Wayne Sims, Sr., on March 9th, 1987. He graduated from high school from the Dallas Can Academy in January of 2008, and received his Associate’s Degree from Anthem College in 2010 for Pharmacy Technologist, followed by earning his license in Cosmetology from Houston Training School. He began his hairstyling career at Blue Mambo Salon, and then Super Cuts Salon was to follow. He had such a passion for doing hair and making all things beautiful that he also did hair for clients at home. This often included his favorite clients like Miss Debbie (his mom) and Brownie (his cousin Veronica).
He is survived by his parents, Deborah Ann and Darrell Wayne Sims, Sr.; his brother, Dwayne Anthony Sims; his sister, Lucille Marie Sims; his maternal grandparents Pete and Gloria Treviño; and his paternal grandmother Rose Williams. He is also survived by his Uncle Salvador, Aunt Carmen, Uncle Pete and Aunt Shamarion, Aunt Gloria and Uncle Kevin, Uncle Manuel, Aunt Sandra and Uncle Howard, Uncle John and their children and numerous family and friends.
Darrell had the biggest passion for life and loved everyone he encountered. He had the biggest heart and being near him you could always feel his love. He wanted nothing more than for people to be loved and to be at peace. He loved to dance, he loved great food, and he loved anything that made the world more beautiful. His family meant so much to him, and so did spending time with them and sharing traditional family foods. From the time he started to walk, we called him our little White Tornado. Since then, he has always shaken up our lives to the fullest - in the best way.
We have the silliest memories with him from dancing the Charanga, to babysitting all the little cousins, to singing karaoke to El Rey (and we didn’t even know the words). One thing that is most appreciated about Darrell is that he always encouraged us to try new things, be it a new cuisine, adventure, music type or culture. Being in his presence encouraged us to live life alongside him, experiencing new things that we probably we would not have the courage to do alone. He has always been our champion, the light of lives, our Bird.
Thank you Darling, for showing us how to live life better and how to see the beauty in all things. You have been the most beautiful gift of our lives. Fly high sweetheart. We love you!
A visitation for Darrell will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a celebration of life from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
