David Allan Bracher, 84, slipped away peacefully on March 17th, 2026. Born on January 20th, 1942, in Houston, Texas. He lived a life filled with his love for community where he raised a family, worked and volunteered endlessly in the city he called home.
As a lifelong resident of Houston, Texas, David graduated from Regan High School in 1960 where he played football as a tight end. He attended Sam Houston State University for a brief time and returned to Houston to begin his family and work for the family business, People’s Lumber, which was started by his great grandfather, Gus Bracher. The business grew and continued as Bracher Lumber on Yale Steet with another location on 6th Street. Along with his love of business David volunteered tirelessly for the majority of his life, coaching baseball (Inwood Dad’s Club), working with Walter Rankin Precinct 1 where he was a Constable in Reserve, cooking turkeys, serving Thanksgiving Dinner or dressing as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny for City Wide Club of America Super Feast, volunteering at the Food Pantry of St. Marks United Methodist Church, answering calls during the night for Crisis Hotline, or being recognized as Volunteer of the year for DePelchin Children’s Center, where you could find him cooking fajitas in the yard for all to enjoy when not working with their residents. He loved his last job, which was driving a school bus for HISD, it brought him enjoyment and laughter. David loved his children, America, the Houston Oilers, eating great food, laughing at a joke, picking on those he loved and watching an excellent movie but, most of all he enjoyed the nostalgia of all things Houston and knew every freeway, boulevard, avenue, street or oddity this wonderful city had to offer.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Charles Bracher and Louise Paxton Bracher, and his younger sister, Barbara Kay Olson. David is survived by his older sister, Toni Lawrence (Bob Lawrence) of Houston, Texas, his daughter Victoria Noyes (Tom Noyes) of Florida, his son, David Bracher, Jr. (Sue Bracher) of Texas, his son, Jimmy Bracher (Hilary Bracher) of Texas and his daughter, Stephanie Goodwin (Jay Goodwin) of Texas, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery on
April 20th at 10AM, the internment immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to DePelchin Children’s Center, 4950 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, 77077 in memory of David Bracher or City Wide Club of America Super Feast, 4900 Fournace Place, Suite #423, Houston, Texas, 77401 in memory of David Bracher.
