“Guero”
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of David Ray Castañeda,
affectionately known as “Guero.”
David passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on August 4, 2025, at
the age of 25. He was lovingly received into heaven by his
grandparents Dahlia Garcia and Samuel Maldonado, and Herlinda and
Ruben Castañeda, who preceded him in death.
Born on October 26, 1999, in North Houston, David brought light and
warmth to everyone he knew. He was the beloved son of Ruben Castañeda
and Rosalinda Garza, and a loving and devoted brother to Dahlia
Ramirez and Daniel Ruben Castañeda.
He is survived by his loving and supportive step-parents, Flor Mendoza
and Jose Manuel Garza; his aunt Maricela Castañeda; and his uncle
Gabriel Castañeda. He is also survived by many cousins with whom he
created lasting memories. Among his cherished family, he is also
survived by his loving girlfriend, Chasity Garcia.
David graduated from Benjamin O. Davis High School in 2019 and pursued
a career in logistics. He took pride in his work and always gave his
best.
He had a passion for fishing, music, cleaning, and caring for animals.
More than anything, David was known for constantly checking in on his
friends and family—he made it a point to let people know they were
loved. His generous, loyal, and kind-hearted spirit left a lasting
mark on everyone around him.
A man of deep Catholic faith, David held a strong devotion to San
Judas Tadeo. He never let himself run out of San Judas candles—a small
but powerful reflection of his spiritual trust.
David will be remembered as lovable, funny, passionate, confident, and
incredibly kind. His vibrant presence, warm smile, and huge heart will
never be forgotten.
