David was born to Richard and Evelyn Kerr in Portland, Oregon on September 19, 1946. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood and often reminisced about collecting blackberries and fishing with his father and older brother, Robert, on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. He was a star athlete in high school. After graduating from David Douglas High School, David answered the call to duty and served proudly in the U.S Army from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War. David was in infantry and fought hand-to-hand combat which scarred him deeply.
David was married to the late Bonita Jean Buck. They had two children: Richard and Randal. David was a devoted husband and father. He coached his sons’ youth sports teams, taught them hunting, camping, fishing, and skiing. Many weekends were spent enjoying the outdoors on the Oregon coast or skiing the slopes of Mt. Hood.
David worked in a variety of industries. He owned and managed The Great Gatsby restaurant/disco in Portland in the late 1970’s and eventually made his way to Houston, Texas where he owned and operated USA Clearinghouse and Diversicom, a site development company which erected high-rise towers for cell phone communications and fiber-optics all over the country. He also owned and operated two gas stations and a roofing company with his sons.
In Houston, he met and married Barbara Peshek. They were married for twenty years. They became an instant family with her son, Ian. David was a wonderful stepfather and enjoyed watching his stepson play football and run track in high school. He continued his enthusiasm for golf and added traveling around the country with Barbara. He was a long-time member of the Tomball VFW. He was a diligent worker who enjoyed his life and family.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Richard and Randal, and stepson, Ian Palmer, and wife Lyndsie Palmer and two grandchildren.
David will be interred in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon with Military Honors.
