OBITUARY

Dolores Nelson

7 August, 1936 – 8 February, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery

A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother (aka: Mimi), daughter and sister, and loyal friend to many, Dolores Nelson, 87 of Katy, Texas passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024 while under the care of Heritage Park Nursing home. She had bravely confronted and overcame, bladder, colon and lung cancer, but in the end, it was Alzheimer's that took her from all those who love her.

Dolores was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1936 and lived there until moving to Houston, Texas as a young wife and mother. She met and later married her high-school sweetheart, Donald Nelson, in September of 1954 after spending her senior year of high school in Florida.

Donald and Dolores Nelson started their family in 1955, with son Douglas, followed by Denise in 1963, Dean in 1964, Darrin in 1965 and Deanna in 1968.

Between raising her five children and working at various retail companies in Houston, she spent any of her free time perfecting her many hobbies and crafts. Although known in the local quilting community for her love of creating and teaching the art of quilting during the last 25 plus years of her life, she had also loved painting, knitting, sewing, (and yes, she made homemade clothes for her children) crocheting, and creating wonderful ceramic art. If you were lucky enough to have been gifted one of her creations, cherish it along with your memories of her.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Elkin, Katherin Elkin and stepmother Barbara Elkin, husband; Donald, sons, Douglas and Darrin, and brother William "Bill" Elkin.

She is survived by her loving children, Denise Gates and her husband Harold, Dean Nelson and his wife Annette, Deanna Johnson and her husband Doug, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Nelson, sisters-in-law Alice Elkin and Dorothy Peterson, brothers Richard Elkin and Martin Elkin, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held in the near future.
