Dora R. Escamilla, age 90, went to her heavenly home on April 16, 2021. She was born to the late Jose Cristelo and Carmen Gallegos Rodriguez on December 18, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas. Dora worked thirty plus years at Nabisco working on the assembly line packing cookies. She made many friends there that would last a lifetime. Mom would come home smelling of cookies and not surprisingly, loved cookies. It would be one food she continually requested. She retired and fulfilled her dream of travelling. Hawaii and New York were just a few of the places she visited but her most favorite and memorable trip was to the healing waters of Lourdes. Dora was a very faithful and devout Catholic and instilled this deep faith in her children. She shared whatever she had with her siblings and parents, always focusing on the needs of others, not her own. Dora loved to dance and socialize. Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews have very special memories of the fun times they shared. She also spent a lot of time with her sisters and friends after she retired and was soon named the Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society, an organization for women over a certain age and arranged all sorts of field trips to interesting places. The family will always remember her for her faith, kindness and her beautiful smile. Dora is survived by her partner of 32 years, Santos DeLeon; her daughters Linda E. Garza (Roberto, Jr.), Dora M. Carranza (Eddie, Jr.) and Rebecca A. Rojas (Armando); her sons Joe Escamilla (Victoria Zakharova) and Benito T. Escamilla II; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren; and her sisters, Mary Tovar and Blanca Rodriguez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Carmen Rodriguez; brothers, Will, Joe and Rodrigo Rodriguez and daughter, Josephine Escamilla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in her memory.
