On June 26,1933 Dorothy Mae Franklin was born in Houston, Texas to John and Amelia Franklin.
At an early age, Dorothy accepted Christ into her life at Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, later becoming a member at Sweet Home M.B.C, both in Houston, Texas.
Dorothy was educated in Houston, attending E.O. Smith Middle School, Phillis Wheatley High School, Houston Community College, and Franklin Beauty School. She was employed by Six Flags Astroworld and later, for more than 15 years, she faithfully served the North Houston community as an employee of Aldine ISD. Eventually retiring but never losing contact with her Aldine family.
An avid football fan, she was always ready to enjoy a good football game and often cheered on her great grandchildren, who cheered and played football and basketball for Mac Arthur High School and Phyillis Wheatley.
She hosted and enjoyed many family gatherings and was happiest when everyone was together celebrating. Dorothy loved music, dancing, and a good game of pokeno. No matter the season, if the weather was clear, she enjoyed sitting in her yard and watching her pup Queenie play.
Dorothy was preceded in death by; her parents, John Franklin and Amelia Sims; beloved husband, Wilbur King; her daughter, Jujuana Hardy; her sons, Reverend Charles Green and Kenneth Franklin; siblings, Veola Randle, Henry Sims, Lee Sims, Alma Dennis, William Sims, Margarite Thompson, Maurice Thompson, Irma Kennedy and Leroy Sims; granddaughter, Chevelle Hardy; and grandson, Michael Franklin.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory; her loving sons, Nolan Green and Vernon Franklin; eight grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends who loved her dearly and will miss her deeply.
Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life well-lived, and we find comfort in knowing her legacy of love, strength and joy will live on in all who knew her.
