

DOROTHY LEE "DEE" DANIELS MURTAUGH, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother peacefully passed away on Sunday, the 14th of November 2010. Dee was born to Emma Dorothy and Harry Lee Daniels in Hollywood, California. She was graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and the Santa Anita Thoroughbreds Club. With her family, Dee moved to Houston in 1963. She immediately became ensconced in many civic organizations and events including The Junior League of Houston, LTG, The Houston Pops, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's International Committee, and The Museum of Fine Arts Guild, where she was honored as the 2009 Volunteer of the Year. For over 30 years, Dee was one of the top sales persons with Sweeney's Jewelers/Bailey, Banks, and Biddle.
"Darlin' Dee," as she was known by many, thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people, traveling to new destinations, trying out new activities, and spending time with friends and family. She was filled with a tremendous joie de vivre and always included people in her circle of happiness. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and love touched everyone she met.
Dee is preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband, Jerome Lyons Murtaugh. She is survived by son David Hanson and his wife, Valerie Hanson, daughter Cindy Bernard and her husband, Bryan Bernard, daughter Kristina Graf, and her husband Paul Graf, stepdaughter Mary Haiar and her husband Tom Haiar, and stepson Walter Murtaugh and his wife, Claudia Murtaugh. She is also survived by her grandchildren Blake Hanson, Trevor Hanson, Harris Bernard, Evan Bernard, Valerie Varnell, Robert Varnell, Sean Clancy, and Caroline Murtaugh.
The Memorial Service will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 26th of November, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be directed to the Museum of Fine Arts Guild, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's International Committee, or the charity of your choice.
