

Brown was born and grew up in the Central Texas city of Brady. He worked for Armed Forces Radio in Korea and graduated with a degree in theology from Baylor University.
He began his career in television in 1958 at KRGV in Weslaco, taking a crash course at the University of Texas to learn about meteorology. He then worked at KWTX in Waco before coming to Houston in 1972. He spent the bulk of his 50-year career in television at Channel 13, where he worked from 1976 through 2008, most of that time as a fixture on the station.
In 2008, at age 75, Doug retired from Channel 13. His time was spent with his wife, his family, and beloved friends. He relished his role as a grandfather. He was interested in the arts and was an avid sports fan. Doug was a man of many interests. He loved to read, golf, bicycle and spent countless hours working in the community.
Doug’s greatest passion was bringing joy into the lives of everyone he met. His goal and the legacy he hoped to leave was to share his love of God with others. Doug’s connection to Jesus Christ was deep and everlasting.
Doug is survived by his wife, Susan Hulburt Brown; sons, Tim Brown and David Brown; grandson, Alex Brown; granddaughters, Natalie Brown and Delaney Brown; brother, Kyle Brown and his wife Murl; sister-in-law, Linda Bayer and husband Scott, sister-in-law, Cathy Dienst and husband Steve; brother-in-law, Steve Farek and wife Cara; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews and devoted friends and loved ones.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 21st of January, in the library and grand foyer at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 22nd of January, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
Serving as honorary pallbearers during Tuesday's services are Sam Dienst, Cory Farek, Henry Florsheim, Gene Haynes, David McHam, Keith O’Brien, Chuck Roachell, David Tillman, Roddy Young.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
