

Edmund Noel Gouldin, born February 12, 1925, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2015 in Houston, Texas. Edmund was born in Tappahannock, Virginia to John Milton Gouldin, Jr. and Elizabeth Winston Wright. He attended St. Christopher Prep School in Richmond, Virginia and went on to attend Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia where he excelled in baseball and football. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945 in the V-12 (Medical School) at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Edmund graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1949 where he had served his internship and residency in Pathology and his residency in Internal Medicine. He went on to become the Chief Resident in Hematology under the renowned Dr. L.W. Diggs at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee. It was during this time that he married his wife, Martha Ware.
Edmund served in the Korean War, stationed in Virginia and Japan from 1951-1953. He joined the Diagnostic Clinic of Houston in 1958 and was one of the original owners of The Diagnostic Center Hospital. He remained at Diagnostic Clinic until his retirement in 1992. While at Diagnostic Clinic he served on the Board of Directors of The Southwest Blood Bank which later became Blood Services, Inc. After his retirement in 1992 he was a Locum Tenens doctor throughout the state of Texas for the next 15 years filling in for doctors when they were away from their practices for conferences or vacation time. He loved doing this work because he was able to see so much of Texas that he had never had the time to explore during his busy career. Edmund was a member of Second Baptist Church of Houston and loved attending church each week. He was a devoted member of the Live at Five bible class.
He was preceded in death by brothers John Milton Gouldin, III, M.D. and Moore Wright Gouldin and sisters Mary Sue Rennolds and Elizabeth Noel Minor. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ware Gouldin; his son Edmund Noel Gouldin, Jr. and wife Susan; grandson David Gouldin, wife Beth Gouldin; great-granddaughter Eden and grandson Collin Gouldin and wife Laura Gouldin; his son William Ware Gouldin and wife Lori; grandchildren Caroline and William; he is preceded in death by his daughter Caroline Joyce (Joy) Talbert who went to be with the Lord in 1991; grandson Richmond Talbert and wife Kimy; greatgrandchildren Eli, Van and Colt; grandson Bradley Talbert and wife Laura; great-grandchildren Piper and Luke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2015 in the Hankamer Chapel at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway, Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Star of Hope Mission in Houston, Texas or the Wounded Warrior Project.
