

Edgar Odell Lovett II, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, the 29th of October 2013, in Houston, following a brief illness. Born in Houston, on the 8th of August 1956, to Martha Wicks Lovett and Henry Malcolm Lovett, he was the grandson and namesake of Edgar Odell Lovett, the founding president of Rice University. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Edgar attended River Oaks Elementary School, Lanier Middle School, The Kinkaid School and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, Rice University and South Texas College of Law. He was the consummate fisherman, highly skilled and passionate in his exploration of the Gulf coast and Arkansas waters and with expertise and encouragement, introduced his son and many friends to the joys of fishing and life out of doors. A talented chef, meals in their home for family and guests were adventuresome, delicious and artistically presented. Possessed of a kind, nurturing and gentle heart and a magnificent sense of humor, he was a friend and caregiver for many, both young and old.
Edgar was a member of Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, the Bayou Club, The Mansfield Club, Allegro and the Paul Jones Dance Club.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his godparents, Marjorie and Isham Marion (Dutchie) Wilford and his brothers-in-law, Mark and Steve House.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Pamela Ann House Lovett; his adored children, Julia Marjorie Lovett and Edgar Odell Lovett III (Gar); his sisters, Eliza Lovett Randall and Mary Hale Lovett McLean; his brother, Henry Malcolm Lovett, Jr. and wife, Mary Nell; all of Houston; his wife's parents, Verlene and Edward House of Batesville, Arkansas; and nieces and nephews, Martha Randall Galbraith, Laura Randall Bacon, Helen Wicks Randall, Edward Randall IV, Mary Eliza Lovett Shaper and Kate Lovett Searls, all of Houston, Elizabeth Horn Ozden and David Roberts Horn of Portola Valley, California and Edward House of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Michael House of Batesville, Arkansas, and Katie Fulp of Springfield, Missouri.
The family will receive friends at their residence, from four o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 31st of October.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 1st of November at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, 6221 Main Street in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
