Edward “Eddie” William Buddemeyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2015 at the age of 88 in Houston, Texas. He was born June 13, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Edward and Margaret Buddemeyer. He is preceded in death by his younger sister, Marilyn Zulauf.
After graduating, he joined the National Guard and was drafted into the US Army. Eddie worked for Armco Steel Corporation for 32 years where in 1963, he relocated with the company to Houston, Texas. After enjoying retirement for a short while, he decided to become a bus driver for Alief Independent School District for 6 years. During the initial phase of his second retirement, he enjoyed attending Second Baptist Church, traveling, riding his bike, playing dominos and sitting in his hot tub. Eddie also enjoyed growing tomatoes and was known by many as a “Champion Tomato Grower”. In his later years, you would find him playing Rummikub or Bingo and watching Houston Sports.
Eddie loved his family deeply and led his life by example – he was a kind, caring, honorable, generous, positive, Christian man who was greatly loved and admired by all he knew. He will be dearly missed and his passing will leave a great void in the lives of all whom he has touched with his presence.
In God’s care, Eddie leaves behind his loving wife, O. Jean Parks Buddemeyer; daughter Sharon “Sherry” Roberts and husband Richard; sons Dale Buddemeyer and wife Kathy and Kirk “Korky” Buddemeyer and wife Velia; grandchildren Kimberly Roberts Simmons and husband George, Greg Roberts and wife Virginia, Melissa Buddemeyer Ray and husband Harlan and Tyler Buddemeyer; great grandchildren Andrew Simmons, Cameron See and Baylee Simmons and countless friends.
The family would like to recognize and thank his caregivers, Jacquetta and Stephanie, and everyone at Buckner Hospice including Monique, MaryAnn, Pat and Traci for the loving care provided to Eddie.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association.
