Edward Jay Richards

On February 22, 1943, a trailblazing baby boy was born to Edward Jay and Eunice Richard in Franklin, Texas. Edward was better known as “EJ” but was also affectionately known as Ed, Chief, Gramps, Dr. Jam. EJ was a courageous, fearless, hardworking, loving, outgoing, smart, man. EJ’s first job was babysitting his siblings whom he was the eldest of eight children. He eventually ventured out on his own at an early age to Hockley Texas where he worked various jobs. During this time EJ became the proud father of Zena Lewis (Missy) and Marlon Richards. EJ later moved to Houston, Texas, where he met Bernice Lockett and was united in holy matrimony for 50 years. EJ began his career with I.L.A. International Long Shoreman, Local 24. EJ worked for I.L.A. starting at the bottom and worked his way up to a Foreman position until he retired in 2017. EJ was all knowing of the waterfront in which he took major pride in when speaking about it. EJ’s favorite pass times were trail riding, dancing, bowling, and hanging out with the Grands and the Great Grands. Sundays was family day and when he wasn’t watching the Dallas Cowboys (HIS FAVORITE TEAM) he was entertained by Western Movies and WWE Wrestling.

EJ was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward and Eunice Richards; sister, Alberta Green; and grandson, Patric A. Allen.

His brothers: Eddie Richard, Furman Richard, Randy Joe Richard.

His Sisters: Betty Richard , Eunice Richard, Hazel Ramirez (David),

Daughters: Cynthia Herron, Mary Ann Behn, Zena Richards.

Sons: Jack Kizzie (deceased), Marlon Richards, Reggie Lewis, Ronnie Lewis

Grandchildren: Monique Plummer (Fitzgerald), Jeremy Herron (Tawana), Shaskyia Behn, Joshua Herron (Janie), Cordrick Lewis, Jessica Herron, Jennifer Herron.

Great Grands: Morgan Plummer, Jared Herron, Jaidon Herron, Nicholas Plummer, Malcolm McBride, Jacob Herron, Jayla Williams (deceased), Ja’Maya Williams, J’Naysia White, Joseph Howard.

A visitation for Edward will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A funeral service will immediately follow Friday, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A paradise cemetery South will occur Friday, May 5, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at External Service Location, 2237 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581.
