He was born in Tampa, Florida to Daniel and Rosalie Lounders Roque where he attended Hillsborough High School. Also an ace running back for the football team, he was part of their state championship track relay team in 1950. The University of Florida conferred a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering to Ed in 1955 with honors. Shell Development give him his first post graduate job in Houston Texas that same year.
He married Lynn Boyle and had three sons before deciding to change his career direction after almost 12 years of working at Shell. In 1968 he graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Dental Branch. He set up practices around the Houston area before retiring from the office on Bay Area Blvd. in Clear Lake / Webster in 1997.
Ed was blessed to find true love again and in 1993 he married Leslie Pierce who survives him today. Blessings continue as he is survived by his brothers: Daniel Roque, his wife Erika and their child of Tampa, FL; Gerald Roque, his wife Carol and their children of Howie-in-the-Hills Florida. His three sons surviving him are Mark Daniel Roque, his wife Sylvia of Nashville, Tennessee along with his daughter Elizabeth Lorraine Roque of and her daughter Madison Elizabeth Johnson of Houston, Texas; Gerald Edward Roque, his wife Tonia and her son Chance Davis of League City, Texas; and Stephen Rhodes Roque of Friendswood, Texas. He kept his loving family heart for his “step” children as well. They are: Brian Buvinghausen of Houston, Texas; Elizabeth Shelton Rodgers of Kingwood, Texas; Susan Shelton Ruff of Richardson, Texas; Jack Shelton of The Woodlands, Texas; and all of the totally remarkable children they brought into his life.
There will be two memorial services. The first in Friendswood at the Green Event Center located in Friendswood, Texas at 2000 West Parkwood. It will be held on Tuesday November 8th at 6 pm. A meal prepared from produce of local area farmers will be served following the celebration.
Yet to be scheduled but likely in late November another service will be held in Ibor City, Florida at the Columbia for Ed’s large Floridian family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the MD Anderson Cancer Center to help continue the fight against this dread disease. P.O. Box 4464 Houston, Texas 77210-4464.
