Edwina was born on January 1, 1937 to Edward and Mae Laycock on a farm just outside of Claude, TX. Edwina had an older sister, Dot Laycock, who passed away before Edwina was born. Edwina was spoiled by both her parent as now she was an only child. Unfortunately, by the age 16, both of her parents also passed away and Edwina was now alone. Not in Claude! The town took her in and with the help of her guardians, Albert and Annie Rutherford, as well as Carl and Georgia Woods, they made sure she finished high school and was prepared to attend college. Edwina was able to attend West Texas State University (WT) in Canyon. TX where she studied education. While attending WT in the summer of 1957 she met Jack Hupp, the man she would marry on Friday, September 13 after only dating for three months. The marriage was meant to be because they were happily married for 63 years until his passing on Christmas Day in 2020. Upon Jack’s graduation from WT the happy couple moved to Amarillo, TX to start their careers as well as a family. Jack and Edwina were blessed with two wonderful sons, Kevin and Scott, of whom she was immensely proud. After starting their family Edwina would return to night school to finish her degree and receive her teaching certificate. She taught kindergarten for the next 30 years. Edwina was loved and adored by her students and was often invited to attend their graduations and marriages.
In 1972, Jack’s company transferred the family to New Orleans which was a major culture shock. Edwina hated everything about the move in the beginning, but as time went on, she fell in love with the history, food and the friends she made. In 1976, Jack was transferred to Houston, TX where they would spend the rest of their lives. Edwina was an artist, pianist, singer and loved to travel along with hosting family get-together at her house in Pecan Grove. She had a passion for plants and became a Master Gardener. Her beautiful yard was featured on garden tours in Richmond. She also had a passion for wildflowers which she turned into a business, Ed’s Emporium, selling wildflower pictures at craft shows around the state.
Edwina was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by many, she was a Christian, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Most of all, she loved her husband Jack, Shortly after her passing, Scott and Dona were outside her apartment and saw two cardinals playing by her window and we feel this symbolizes that it did not take Edwina long to find Jack. They are now happily together for all eternity.
Edwina is survived by her son and their wives: Kevin and Patricia Hupp, Scott and Dona Hupp. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Brandon, Angela, Cameron and wife Candace, Kristie and Austin; and two great-grandchildren; Layla and Harrison.
Pallbearers: Kevin Hupp, Scott Hupp, Brandon Hupp, Cameron Hupp, Austin Hupp, Eddy Reynolds, Chase Reynolds and Honorary Pallbearers: jay Reynolds
