

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON
Bro. Elijah Culbert was born on May 23, 1963, in his hometown of Alexandria, Louisiana, to the union of the late Clarence Culbert, Sr, and Bessie Mae Grimble Culbert. He was raised on Ball Lane, better known as Bayou Rapides.
He attended schools in Rapides Parish, including CE Robinson, Mabel Brasher Elementary, and Alexandria Jr High. He graduated from Bolton High School. Elijah completed Arcadian Welding School in Lafayette, Louisiana. He worked offshore as a welder for a short time.
Elijah worked in the Rapides Parish School System for several years. Elijah accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the First Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dave Smith. He was active in Sunday School, Bible Study, Church Programs, and the Church Choir.
When he relocated to Houston, Texas, he joined Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Raymond Hillis. He was active in the Church Choir. Sgt Elijah entered the National Guard as a Food Service Specialist. He was called to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served in Kuwait 2/14/04 to 2/27/05. His medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and Devise Army Service Ribbon.
Elijah retired from the military and was honorably discharged. He retired from the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center as an Information Clerk after 21 years of federal service. Elijah was affectionately known as High C and Bear. Elijah loved people. He loved all kinds of sports, especially football and basketball. He loved going to games. He also loved watching the Dallas Cowboys football games and was their number one fan.
On April 22nd, 2025, the Lord called our beloved Elijah home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Mae Grimble Culbert, his father, Clarence Culbert, Sr, four sisters, Bobbie, Johnnie Nell, Linda, and Lillie Mae. He leaves to cherish in memory his devoted fiancée, Stacey Lewis, siblings: Mae Alice (Jerry) Williams of Alexandria, LA, Clarence Culbert Jr. (Jane) of Corrales, New Mexico, Billie (Marilyn) Culbert of Danville, VA. Evelyn (Gregory) Braud of Baton Rouge, LA; Nicole Whitehead of Alexandria, LA, Bobby Haislah (Brother-n-Law), Cleveland, OH, Harlin Lathers (Brother-n-Law) Alexandria, LA and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation for Elijah will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 W. Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. The funeral service will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10401 W. Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. The committal will follow Wednesday, from 12:45 PM to 1:15 PM at Paradise Funeral Home & Cemetery North, 10401 W. Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
