Emily C. Sheard

Emily was born January 5, 1917 to Levi Cartmell and Elizabeth Ardrey Cartmell in Philadelphia, PA, the youngest of 5 children. She trained as a nurse and married William (Bill) Sheard in 1943 in West Memphis, AR while she was serving in the US Army as a nurse. They raised 5 children. The family moved to Greenville, Texas in 1968. In 1973 she graduated from Texas A&M Commerce with a degree in Psychology, an accomplishment she always wanted to do. She worked as a nurse for many years in New York, Atlanta, GA and Greenville, TX before retiring. In 1999 she and Bill moved to Houston to be closer to her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill and 3 grandchildren. She is survived by 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was a committed Christ-follower and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held September 14 at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning at 1:30 pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home 12800 Westheimer

Houston, TX 77077. A family graveside service will be held at the Houston VA Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Douglas Marek Memorial (Scholarship) Fund (established at the passing of her grandson).
