Ernie Rivas, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and proud Marine veteran, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, at the age of 76. Born November 18, 1947, in El Campo, Texas; Ernie was known for his strong will, unwavering determination, and love for his family.
As a Marine, Ernie exemplified courage and dedication, serving with honor and distinction. His time in the military shaped his values of loyalty, perseverance, and strength—values he carried with him throughout his life.
He was the devoted husband of Mieko Rivas, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life of love, raising two sons, Carlos Rivas and Calvin Rivas, who were his pride and joy. He taught them the importance of integrity, hard work, and always putting family first.
Ernie will be remembered for his deep love for his family and his giant, contagious smile. While a man of very few words, he was extremely kind and had a soft heart; willing to give anyone who needed it the shirt off his back.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mieko Rivas; sons Carlos Rivas and Calvin Rivas; daughter-in-law Meagan Rivas; grandsons Caleb Rivas and Gavin Rivas; brother Eduardo Rivas; sisters Ellen Navarro and Eva Perez; many nephews and nieces along with other extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held on November 8th, 2024, at American Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to Tunnels to Towers in Ernie’s name.
His legacy of love, honor, and service will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Semper Fidelis.
