Evelyn M. Ellen

Evelyn Ellen entered into eternal rest on August 11, 2010, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her faith, patience and strength in enduring this adversity is a tribute to her and an encouragement to her family and friends.

Evelyn was born on September 8, 1955 in Cavite City, Philippines to Reynaldo and Maria Babala Mateo. She enjoyed a career in the medical field, most recently working in physical therapy at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research Town and Country.

Evelyn enjoyed volunteer work, traveling, reading, pets, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of twenty-four years, Peter; sister, Myrna Mateo Balliot; sister-in-law, Vasso Ellen Espinoza; aunt and uncle, Drs. Rogelio and Leticia Velarde who loved and cared for Evelyn as devoted parents her whole life; cousins, Nathaniel Velarde, Carisa Strauss and Selena Mac Phee; godchildren, Justin Basada, Jennifer Rodil and Maria Stratigis and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Evelyn and her family thank Dr. Daniel Booser, Dr. Frederick Lang, Dr. Marco Perez and countless other doctors, nurses and caregivers at MD Anderson Cancer Center for their compassion, dedication and caring.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, St Anne Catholic Church or St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Monastery.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, August 16, 2010 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM in the chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at St. Anne Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
