

F. Clay Underwood, retired oilfield supply company executive, passed away on the 17th of November 2010, in Houston. He was born on the 5th of February 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Fleming L. and Cora M. Underwood.
During his career in the supply industry, he was with The Bethlehem Supply and Bovaird Supply Company organizations for forty years. During the early part of his career, he was involved in the design, engineering and construction of a multitude of enhanced recovery projects throughout the US and Canada. He later served in various executive positions with the Bovaird organization in Tulsa, California and Houston retiring in 1990. Upon his retirement he formed F. Clay Underwood & Associates, a consulting firm in Houston.
A Tulsa native, Clay graduated from Tulsa Central High school in 1942 and the University of Tulsa in 1950 with a degree in Petroleum Production Engineering. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, a registered professional engineer in the State of Oklahoma, and a member of numerous industry professional organizations. While in Tulsa, he was active in the Tulsa University alumni association and was a member of the associate vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Clay is survived by his wife Laria of 60 years; sons, D. Clay and his wife Pam of Houston and John Lawrence of Tulsa; sister, Lillian Borden and her husband Guy of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandchildren, Cameron and Connor Underwood of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 22nd of November, at St. Martins Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. John R. Bentley, Jr., Priest Associate for Pastoral Care, is to officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
The graveside service is to be conducted in Oklahoma at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 24th of November, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5111 South Memorial Drive in Tulsa.
