Fidela D. Manriquez was born on September 9, 1920 in Wharton, Texas to Julio & Ernestina De Leon. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the age of 100.
Fidela and her husband Merced Manriquez, Sr., founded and owned Manriquez Paint and Body Shop on Center St. Together they raised their four children. Fidela enjoyed going out dancing with her husband and attending the annual LULAC Black & White Dance Fundraiser.
For over 20 years, Fidela worked in the nursery at Houston’s First Baptist Church. She enjoyed walking to St. Theresa Catholic Church every Sunday to attend mass. Fidela will be remembered for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and loving friend. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, going out to eat and going to the movies with her friends.
Fidela was preceded in death by her devoted & loving husband, Merced Manriquez, Sr.; her sons, Roland Manriquez and Merced Manriquez, Sr.; her brothers, Raul De Leon, Julio De Leon, Jr., and Enrique De Leon.
Fidela is survived by her daughters Martha Castillo & husband Rudolph, Clara Galindo & husband Robert; her grandchildren, Randy Juarez, Josette Juarez, Michael Castillo, Anthony Mojica, Jeffrey Mojica, Christopher Manriquez and Christine Manriquez; her great-grandchildren Michael Castillo, Jr., Adam Merced Magableh, Sharif Aref Magableh, Vincent Manriquez, Natalia Manriquez and Siena Marie Manriquez; her sisters, Beatrice De La Garza & husband Fortunato, Josephine De Leon; her brother, David De Leon.
The visitation for Fidela will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 2516 Navigation Blvd, Houston, Texas 77003. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home to leave to the church promptly at 9:15 AM, Tuesday, November 17, 2020. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM, November 17, 2020 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell St., Houston, Texas 77007. The Rite of Committal will follow Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas 77023.
