

Florence Ann Shields Lundquist, 76 passed on to her eternal life on March 31, 2011. Florence was born on September 12, 1934 to Mark and Mina Shields in rural southern Illinois. She was the youngest of four children. She thrived as a youngster growing up on a farm surrounded by aunts , uncles and cousins in the neighboring farms. At 17, she moved to St. Louis to attend business school and then joined Sohio where she met and later married Kenneth Elvik Lundquist. She and Ken spent a few years in St. Louis and then moved to Cleveland, Ohio and lived there for 13 years until she and her family moved to Houston where she has been for the last 37 years. Florence is survived by her children and their spouses: Karla Lundquist, Eric and Eileen Lundquist, Mark and Jeanie Lundquist and Karen Lundquist. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Kirsten, Matthew, Amy, Kelley, Kenneth and James. Her siblings Lorain Frickleton, Lester Shields and Mary Schroeder preceded her in death.
Florence’s devotion to family, her church and various charities gave her great pleasure and were an inspiration to those around her. Florence enjoyed traveling with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and volunteering with various organizations.
The family extends thanks to the staffs at The Abbey at Westminster and Silverado at Cypresswood for the care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, the Houston Hospice or the Social Service Ministry at St. John Vianney.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3rd from 4 to 6 pm at Forest Park Westheimer. A funeral mass honoring Florence’s life will be held on Monday, April 4th at 1:30 pm at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with burial to follow at Forest Park Westheimer.
