Florida Della Walker (Flordella, Nanny) was born on July 30, 1940 to I.W. and Willie B. Walker. She was born and raised in Minden, Louisiana, she was a member of Valley Spring Baptist Church growing up.
Florida went home to be with the Lord on September 28th, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, I.W. and Willie B. Walker, brothers; Dock Walker and I.W. Walker Jr., daughter, Charlotte Ann Walker, grandson, Rafeal McBryant.
She worked endlessly to raise and support all her children and was proud to be the central figure of her family and helped nurture many of her grandchildren. Her love for her children was unconditional and unwavering. Florida always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. She had a passion for gardening, cleaning, reading magazines, and listening to B.B. King.
She will be forever remembered as selfless and fierce by her daughter Christine Harris, sons, Curtis Walker (Wonda) Anthony Walker, Irving Walker (Lisa) of Shreveport, Louisiana. Brothers: Leonard Walker, John D. Walker, Henry Lee Walker, Jerry Walker (Cynthia) of Minden, Louisiana. Grandchildren: seventeen; Great-grand: twelve; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two best friends: Sheridan Smith and Mary A. Stroope.
Special words of thanks: We appreciate all the love and support you all have extended to our family during this time of sadness. The family would like to acknowledge Jermichael for supporting Florida throughout her extensive health journey. Also, we would like to send our appreciation to the Cordova family for their contributions.
Final words: The loss of a mother’s love can never be overcome, but her legacy will be everlasting in our memories.
A visitation for Florida will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039-2623. A burial committal will occur Friday, October 27, 2023 at Brookside Memorial Park.
