
Floyd Freeman, Jr., Commander, Retired, US Navy, Civil Engineering Corps, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018, at the age of 66. Beloved husband to Angela, proud stepfather of Kevin Hamilton (Yenth’i), and grandfather to Kenisha, Taylor, DeKevin, and Tyler, he was preceded in death by his parents, Melba Lee and Floyd Freeman, Sr., and his brother, Ricky Freeman. Floyd was an honors graduate of Prairie View A&M University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (1974). While at PVAMU, he was inducted into several honor societies and was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Following graduation, he was commissioned as an ensign in the US Navy. His naval career spanned 20 years. He went on to later earn a Master’s degree in Mathematics from National University. After military retirement, he moved from a life devoted to public service to employment within the private sector where he worked as an electrical engineer and IT specialist for 23 years. He was an avid believer and, at the time of his death, was a member of Brookhollow Baptist Church, Dr. Ralph West, Sr. Pastor. His homegoing service will take place on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Paradise Funeral Home Chapel, 10401 West Montgomery Road, 77088. A Phi Beta Sigma Omega service will begin at 1:30 PM followed by a memorial service at 2 PM. Minister Lester Pace, officiant/eulogist. The date of his interment at National Cemetery is pending.
