Gary Charles Reed, age 67, a resident of Aransas Pass, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, June 7, 2012, in Houston, TX at Vitas Hospice. He was born on October 2, 1944 in New Iberia, LA to Raymond Charles and Madeline Durand Reed, both deceased. Gary attended Catholic High School and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and was retired from the oil and gas industry.
Gary's working career was in the oil and gas industry with various companies, the longest tenure being with Columbia Gas Development Corporation, an oil and gas exploration company. He made many friends in the industry over the years and those friendships continued on after retirement in 2001 to Aransas Pass, TX. He had a love for the outdoors, and his favorite passion upon retirement was fishing for redfish and trout. Weather permitting, it was a five day of the week "job" for him which he dearly loved. Also, in retirement, he was introduced to a new hobby, "Flight Simulator", a computer program. Along with other "virtual pilots" from all over the United States and abroad, they flew their "virtual airplanes" to beautiful places, especially Alaska.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Carmen Myres Reed; his daughters, Donna Patranella of Houston, TX, Elizabeth Reeder and husband Bradford of Spring, TX, and Kristi Chestnut and husband Robert of Cibolo, TX; his son, Michael Reed of Spring, TX; his sisters, Rita Rae Terradot and husband John, of LA; Deborah Castille and husband Gary of FL., and brother William Reed and wife Charlotte of LA; his granddaughters Ashley Patranella, Bailey Reeder, Blair Reeder, and Porter Chestnut, and grandson Reily Chestnut; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.
