

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kay Jack Bones; his daughter, Beth Buckner and husband Paul and their children Erica, Luke and Emily; stepsons, Michael Flanagan and wife Meggan, and their son, Sean; Alan Flanagan and his children Tommy, Caroline and Keith; and his sister, Charlotte Cooper and husband Jim.
George spent his childhood in Gurdon, Arkansas and moved to Houston in 1956 where he attended Smiley High School, and was a member of the state championship basketball team. His college years were spent at the University of Texas where he received his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering. Following his graduation he worked for Ethyl Corporation and Albemarle Corporation.
George was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, on numerous church and presbytery committees, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Friday morning Bible Study for over 15 years. George loved his scriptures, arose early every morning for his devotional time and took the challenge to memorize the Sermon on the Mount. George had numerous pastor friends and enjoyed listening to their sermons on his daily three mile walks. He enjoyed reading about theology and historical novels. Evenings were often spent enjoying Tex-Mex dinners with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two until five o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 11th of September, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A celebration of George’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 12th of September, at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street in Houston, where Rev. Dr. Jim Birchfield and Rev. Dr. Bill Heston are to officiate. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
In Iieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions in George’s honor be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main St., Houston, TX, 77004.
