

George Purser Jr. was born in Somerville (Burleson County), Texas on July 11, 1931 to George (Sr.) and Ilean Purser. He attended school in Somerville. He was baptized in 1939 along with his mother and sister at the First Baptist Church by Reverend Roy Durmal. He and his family moved to Houston around the age of twelve. He worked at the ice cream shop and as a carpenter’s helper.
George Purser Jr. was inducted into the United States Army on April 11, 1951. He served in the Korean War. He attained the rank of Corporal/E2 serving in Company A, 64th Tank Battalion, APO 468. George Purser Jr. received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star. He also received United Nations Service Medal. George Jr. received an Honorable Discharge from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas on April 1, 1953.
George Purser Jr. is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ilean Purser. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Sossaman of Kountze, Joretta Hudson and husband Douglas Hudson of Spring. Two brothers, Glenn Purser and wife Janeen of New Caney. Leslie Purser and wife, Patsy of Houston. He also survived by seven nieces, Sandra Burks, Deborah Richey, Linda Murphy, Janet Chambless, Phyllis Anderson, Shelly Harrison, & Kelli Fleenor. He is also survived by five nephews, Patrick Sossaman, Ronnie Sossaman, Duane Hudson, Brent Purser and Keith Purser. George Jr. also had numerous great nieces and nephews.
