Rodney was born on July 25, 1951, in Marshall Texas to Eva and George Rasberry. He was raised in Shreveport where he enjoyed playing baseball and music, and later attended LSU. He went on to be a professional musician and songwriter, bringing joy and smiles to all who listened to him play the piano, organ and keyboard for 55 years.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents. He was blessed to be a devoted husband to the love of his life, his wife of 30 years, Joycelyn; father to two children, Jeannie and Ryan; three step children, Kurt Ragas and wife Shirin, Kim Beathard and Chris Calato and wife Lyndsy; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Kyle, Ariana, Madison, McKenna, Merritt, Jax and Cade; and sister Cathy, wife of Chris Carter.
Early in Rodney’s career, he played keyboard with the Crawdads and other bands that toured the US. Later in his career, he was a solo musician entertaining many at restaurants, country clubs, weddings, funerals, and nursing homes. Rodney formed many meaningful and long-lasting friendships with those he played with and those he played for.
He resided in Houston with his wife for the last 30 years of his life. Rodney enjoyed sports and cheering on his favorite teams, the LSU Tigers, Houston Astros and Houston Texans. But by far his favorite love and pastime, was spending time with his wife, Joycelyn, and he wrote several songs about their life together and his love for her including Right Where I Want to Be and Lovin Man. He wrote other songs for those he loved including one for his daughter, Jeannie, titled Girl from Spokane. Rodney was loved by so many, from his family to those he played music with and to his many friends and fans who enjoyed listening to him.
He was a kind, loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who were a part of his life.
In lieu of flowers, funeral expense donations would be greatly appreciated and can be made to Joycelyn Rasberry.
