Gerard began his working life as a taxi driver in his hometown and later moved to New York, intending to work for a short time before returning home. But life had other plans. There, he met his wife, Mireya. Despite the language barrier (she did not speak English, and he did not speak Spanish) Gerard kept a mini English /Spanish dictionary in his back pocket to help them communicate. Their love and determination overcame every obstacle, and together they built a life full of laughter, love, and devotion.
Eventually, Gerard and Mireya moved to Texas, where he spent the remainder of his life surrounded by family and friends. Gerard loved the outdoors, finding joy in fishing, spontaneous drives anywhere, and simply enjoying the beauty of the world around him. He had a playful spirit, quick wit, and infectious laughter, always ready with a clever joke or humorous story. He also loved playing cards and bringing joy to everyone he met.
Gerard lived life with faith, gratitude, and a love for adventure. His love for his family was unwavering, and his legacy of warmth, humor, and zest for life will be treasured by all who knew him.
The family finds comfort in the words of Scripture:
“Absent from the body, present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8
