

Born in Corinto, Nicaragua some many years ago, Gloria followed her big sister and sweet niece when making the move to Houston, Texas. Gloria was diagnosed with cancer in January 2013, following a trip home to Nicaragua in November of 2012. She went through six months of treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and became cancer-free. After being cancer-free for one year, her cancer returned in December 2014. After a courageous battle, Gloria passed away May 31, 2015.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Hartig, son Christopher Hartig, and their father John Hartig, of Houston, Texas. She also has one granddog named Bella, our sweet Shih-tzu. She also leaves behind some wacky siblings, an uncle, and many nieces and nephews, plus a few close childhood friends.
Gloria retired from MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2011 after working there for 32 years. The majority of her MDACC career has been in the Lymphoma / Myeloma department. She worked closely with many doctors whom she truly admired. Gloria was fortunate to remain good friends with several after her retirement.
Funeral services will be held at Forest Park Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2 p.m.
