At 60 years of age, the world lost Gordon Edward Wilkins II. Born in Sandusky, Ohio in 1962 and a longtime resident of Houston, Tx, Gordon passed the morning of August 23, 2022, by happenstance, on his 36th wedding anniversary.
Predeceased by his father, Gordon, and survived by his loving wife Edwina (Jan), daughter Tabitha [Thomas Hunt], son Gordon III, grandchildren Angela and Dominic Hunt, mother Becky-Ann Koelling, sisters Christy Anderson and Jennifer Guiliano and brother Craig.
Unbelievably difficult as his loss is, there is comfort in knowing he made a truly ever-lasting stamp on so many lives around the world. Seeing greater horizons, Gordon left his job as a pizza manager; enlisting in the US Navy at the age of 21 he became a reactor operator on the USS Long Beach, serving until 1989. While many who knew him would understand the mixed relationship the man had with the military service, it was the catalyst to a life of impact. Following some lean years after his honorable discharge from the US Navy, he found the world of system automation and control logic. While primarily these skills were used for oil & gas endeavors, his knowledge and search for novel applications led him to projects from building drill ships to breweries to go forth in building solar power generation facilities.
His skills were only outweighed by his desire to impart knowledge onto others and the deep seated compassion he liberally spread among all others. The stories of his mentorship of others and refusal to impinge on good practices or ethics far outweigh the many terrible jokes and 10th retelling of stories everyone in the room already knew.
Gordon shall be forever missed and loved. In keeping with his love of storytelling, jokes and plain gab, please share some of yours.
