Gregory Anthony Hanley, lovingly known as Papa and UG, was born on August 29, 1952, in Church Point, Louisiana. On November 22, 2025, he gained his eternal rest, passing peacefully at his home. He was the cherished son of the late Captain Hampton Anthony Hanley and Jane Desneige Harris.
Greg was a man whose presence brought light, laughter, and wisdom into every heart he touched. His life was shaped by his deep love of family, his compassion for others, and a steadfast faith that guided his every step. His unwavering love of God was evident not only in his words but in the way he lived—with humility, generosity, and grace. His departure leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to share in his life.
From his early twenties until the age of 73, Greg dedicated his life to the delivery and trucking industry—a career that spanned five decades. He began as a driver, working long, steady hours on the road, and through hard work, reliability, and integrity, he earned his way into the dispatcher’s chair where he continued to lead with patience, fairness, and a genuine love for the people he worked alongside. His work ethic and loyalty were unmatched, and he took pride in every step of his journey.
Outside of work, Greg devoted countless hours to researching his family tree—a pastime that blossomed into a true passion. Through this dedication, he leaves behind a priceless legacy: a rich tapestry of family history for his grandchildren and future generations to cherish.
Yet nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his grandchildren, his beloved sisters, and his many nieces and nephews. His love for his family was boundless, and he poured his heart into every relationship.
Papa’s memory lives on through his son, Gregory (Neyra) Hanley II; his daughter, Amanda (James) Dwyer; his grandchildren, Anthony Hanley, Natalie Hanley, and Levi Hanley; and his beloved sisters, Joanie Hartland, Barbara Womac, Debbie Tolar, He is also survived by siblings Sandra Hanley Strassner, Ronnie Hanley, and Donna Freedman.
