She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Merced and daughter Carmen Cantu Sabala. “Lupe,” as she was known to her loved ones, would be the first to say that her proudest role was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by sisters Sarah Gonzales and Margaret Beltran, children Mary Olga Escamilla (Victor), Dora Ortega (Tony), Merced Cantu Jr. (Ada), and Mark Cantu (Kim), grandchildren Elissa “Lisa”, Yvette, Eric, Abel, Lenora, Annette, Merced III (Sonny), Melissa, Mathew, David, Gabriel, Candice and Celestia and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Brookside Funeral Home (13747 Eastex Freeway) on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a Funeral Service take place at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church (2131 Lauder) on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM to be immediately followed by a Committal Service at Brookside Funeral Home.
